Concrete’s Move-On Team may only have been up and running for a couple of months, but they’re already making a huge difference for the customers they support.
The team was created to help people living in Stoke-on-Trent who have experienced homelessness take the next step when they’re ready to move on from supported accommodation - supporting people to access safe, affordable homes that truly meet their needs, while also helping put all the practical support in place to make a move successful and sustainable long-term.
Moving into a new home can be overwhelming, especially for people rebuilding their lives after difficult experiences such as homelessness, trauma or domestic abuse. That’s why the Move-On Team works closely alongside customers throughout the whole process, helping them understand housing options, secure accommodation, access financial support, source essential furniture and prepare for independent living.
At the heart of the service is a simple aim: helping customers move into homes where they can feel safe, settled and hopeful about the future.
This month, the team supported a mum to secure an affordable home with a local housing provider, with the hope of helping bring her family back together again after domestic abuse had torn them apart.
For the customer, this wasn’t just about finding somewhere to live. It was about finally having a safe and stable home where she and her children could begin rebuilding their lives together again, free from abuse and fear.
Thanks to the support of the Move-On Team, the mum has now been reunited with her children, and the family can begin moving forward together in a home they can feel comfortable, secure and proud of.
Georgia, Service Team Leader for the Move-On Team, said: “This was such a special moment for the team and a real reminder of why this work matters. Safe housing can completely change someone’s future. Seeing a family reunited again after everything they had been through was incredibly emotional, and we’re so proud to have been able to support the customer to take this next step towards a safer and more stable future.”
Moments like this show the real impact safe housing and the right support can have. It’s not simply about bricks and mortar, it’s about helping people rebuild confidence, stability and family life after incredibly difficult experiences.
Although still a new service, the team is already helping customers take important steps towards independence, stability and a brighter future, and Concrete is incredibly proud of the impact they’re already making across our communities.
